About Lauren MacLeod, RD

Hello! My name is Lauren and I am the sports dietitian for Not Your Average Nutritionist.

I grew up as a competitive dancer until college, but once I entered adulthood I embraced my rugged side — climbing, surfing, backpacking, snowboarding and mountain biking are my activities of choice.

Though these seem like two distinct phases of my life, they both have very similar requirements — adequate training, dedication, and proper nutrition. I discovered my passion for sports nutrition as I began to notice the difference in my performance between following a general, healthful diet and actually eating like an athlete. Years of disordered eating hindered my progress, but the final step to my recovery was accepting that I have to eat more (and regularly) in order to succeed in the sports I love.

Athletes have been tricked into believing they cannot be successful unless they “look the part”. My goal is to help athletes ditch the need to “look like an athlete” and instead feel like one through proper nutrition and body positivity.

When I’m not working with NYAN, you can find me in the hospital at my day job. Outside of work, you will almost always find me outside, whether I’m climbing rocks, riding trails, wrapped up in aerial silks, or just laying on the patio with tea and a cheese board.
